Neck Lift – Beautify Your Side Profile

This is Dr. Nakao from Nakao Plastic Surgery Clinic.

At our clinic, we perform many facelift surgeries in addition to nose surgeries.

Facelift surgery is often referred to as “incision lift” in Japan to distinguish it from thread lifts.

We specialize in a facelift surgery called Deep Plane Facelift. As a pioneer in Japan, I have had the opportunity to present at numerous academic conferences and recently, I had the honor of presenting alongside world-renowned facelift surgeons at the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery conference held in Singapore.

Today's case involves a neck lift and pelican surgery, both of which incorporate elements of the Deep Plane Facelift.

Today's images show the preoperative and immediate postoperative views of the neck lift.

Our neck lift procedure is based on a method developed by an Italian doctor named Pelle, which we have further refined.
This method has the advantage of applying traction to the platysma muscle, a central neck muscle, compared to the neck lift procedure developed by Jacono in the United States.

Additionally, renowned practitioners of Deep Plane Facelifts such as Ben and Nayak in the United States have recently introduced a more advanced concept called “Preservation Facelift,” which was also a topic of discussion at the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) 2025 conference held in Singapore.

Pelle's method is recognized internationally as a pioneering approach in preservation techniques and he is now in high demand for lectures worldwide.

This Pelle method involves manipulating the platysma muscle in a more central location, making the surgical field narrower and more challenging compared to the conventional extended Deep Plane Facelift. At our clinic, we perform this method for all neck lift cases.

Although the surgery takes a bit longer, it offers advantages such as stronger traction force and improved skin texture compared to conventional methods. We perform this method while also adding a preservation facelift neck lift method.

Additionally, the Platysmaplasty or pelican surgery is performed based on the method developed by Dr. Auersvald in Brazil. Unlike the Japanese-specific pelican surgery, which involves muscle ligation of the platysma muscle, we consider the balance of the hyoid bone, fascia, hyoid muscle, digastric muscle, submandibular gland and fat above and below the platysma muscle in the formation process.

In the above case picture, we performed formation of the digastric muscle, fascia, hyoid bone and platysma muscle.

By combining a neck lift with a pelican surgery, the muscles around the hyoid bone are pulled inward, elongating the chin and improving the facial contour.

Although there are no frontal photos immediately after the surgery, using Pelle's method results in a sharper appearance of the chin when viewed from the front.

Our facelift surgery is highly popular among middle-aged and older patients seeking to improve facial sagging, but it is also popular among younger patients and those who have undergone facial bone resection surgery. For these patients, facial contouring is one of the objectives and the fact that the chin tip appears sharper when viewed from the front is one of the reasons for its popularity.

In terms of facial contouring, while liposuction and thread lifts are also major treatments for these patients, we believe that there is no method superior to facelift surgery in terms of altering the contour through the movement of the soft tissues.

Our facelift surgery, including neck lift, is performed using the latest evidence-based methods.
